Report an Absence
Regular attendance is an essential part of a student’s education.
Students are expected to be in attendance every school day as required by Colorado state law and district policy.
Please review the BVSD Attendance policy regarding excused and unexcused absences/tardies.
School begins at 7:50 a.m.
All students must be lined up outside with their class by 7:45 a.m.
Students will be marked tardy after 7:50 a.m.
IF YOUR CHILD WILL BE ABSENT:
Please report the absence online via infinite campus or call the attendance line at 720-561-8602
Always notify the office of an absence, not just the classroom teacher before 8:15 a.m. Promptly contacting the office will prevent us from disturbing your home or workplace, and keep the absence from being marked as unexcused. Without notification as a safety precaution, you will receive a call from the district informing you about your student’s absence.
When leaving a message leave:
* Student's first and last name
* Student's grade
* Date of absence
* Reason for absence
* Be sure to include your name, phone number, and relationship to student.
Documentation for the absence (doctor/dentist note or appointment), should be given to the front office, fax it to 720-561-8601, or email to kohl.attendance@bvsd.org.
TARDY POLICY
Late arrivals impact every student’s education. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time.
If you know your child will be late to school, please call the office by 8:15 a.m. so s/he is not marked absent.
The tone of each day is set during the first few minutes of class and an important portion of the daily lesson is presented during this same precious time. We urge you to stress the importance of regular, prompt attendance and appreciate parent/guardian support in this matter as all students benefit from a timely start.
Tardiness and Partial Absences
Because of the disruptive nature of tardiness and partial absences, appropriate consequences consistent with this Policy may be imposed by the School when a student accumulates multiple tardies or partial absences. Generally, three (3) unexcused partial absences or five (5) tardies will equal one unexcused absence. A student detained by another teacher or administrator will not be considered tardy or partially absent.
PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCE FORM
Parents are requested to complete a Pre-Arranged Absence Form for any planned absence longer than three (3) days.
The form should be submitted to the office for approval PRIOR to the absence. Please remember you may receive an attendance letter if you have exceeded the 10 days absence policy.
REPORTING ABSENCE IN INFINITE CAMPUS
Parents and guardians can log in to their Infinite Campus Parent Portal site to notify School staff of an expected student absence. This will ensure the authenticity of reported absences, while also providing families with improved communication when a student misses class. See below for a step-by-step guide that can help you through the process.
The BVSD Report Absence Form allows parents and guardians to securely report a student’s absence from school for a single day. Users submitting an absence report will receive a confirmation email at the contact email address listed in Infinite Campus. The form can be toggled between English and Spanish. Confirmation emails will be sent in English or Spanish depending on the preferred language of the user listed in Infinite Campus. Students are not able to self-report absences from Campus Student.
