We strive to support all students with universal programming.
Targeted
When a student is struggling, our teachers, school counselors and psychologists give more targeted help.

If targeted support does not work or a student is in crisis our educators employ more intensive interventions.
Meet Our Team
Erin McCort
Welcome Colts! This will be my 7th year in BVSD as the counselor at Kohl Elementary School. I studied school counseling at Loyola University Maryland. Although I have been a counselor at all school levels, working with elementary students brings a special joy to each day.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my (newlywed) husband, Art, our two dogs, Mango and Seamus (my COVID puppy who is now as big as a 4th grader) and our cat, Squeaker (aka Sir Squeak’s-a-lot). We enjoy nights in the backyard playing games and listening to music. I am always up for an adventure in the mountains - skiing, hiking, sitting in a hot spring, floating down a river - it all sounds great to me!
I had a great summer full of friends, family and being outside! This summer I went paddleboarding, camping and home to Maryland. The best part of being home, aside from family of course, is eating crabs and going to the beach!. I cannot wait to hear about all of the exciting things you did with your families this summer….and see how much your child(ren) have grown (😲)!

Elementary Counseling
A comprehensive elementary school counselor provides education, prevention and intervention services in the areas of academic, career and social/emotional development supports. It is important to note that elementary counselors are not therapists; rather they are professional educators with a mental health perspective. They typically spend the majority of their time working on universal instruction and working with all students. The elementary counselors will work in collaboration with administration, teachers, the mental health team and parents to determine the needs of all students within each building.
